Problems after an update
The web interface of Zeiterfassung is an application that is loaded completely into your browser. So that it does not have to be transferred again on every visit, the browser keeps its program files in a cache.
After an update your browser may mix old and new program parts — it takes some of them from the cache and loads the rest freshly from the server. The result are errors that only happen to you and that disappear once the cache has been cleared.
Typical symptoms
Section titled “Typical symptoms”| What you see | What is behind it |
|---|---|
| The page stays on the loading screen (three bouncing dots) | A program file from the cache no longer matches the new version. |
| A white or empty page after signing in | Same as above — the application aborts while starting. |
| The bar „Unerwarteter Fehler aufgetreten …” appears at the bottom | The application ran into an error. The Aktualisieren (refresh) link in that bar is always the first thing to try. |
| Screens look shifted, icons are missing or show up as boxes | Old layout or font files from the cache. |
| The new features announced with the update are missing | You are still looking at the old version from the cache. |
| Actions fail although your input is correct | The old interface is talking to an already updated server. |
Step 1: Reload the page completely
Section titled “Step 1: Reload the page completely”A normal reload (F5) still uses the cache. You need a full reload that bypasses it:
| System | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Windows — Chrome, Edge, Firefox | Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R |
| macOS — Chrome, Edge, Firefox | ⌘ + Shift + R |
| macOS — Safari | ⌘ + ⌥ + R |
Press the shortcut two or three times in a row and wait each time until the page has finished loading. In many cases that already settles it.
Step 2: Close the browser completely
Section titled “Step 2: Close the browser completely”If step 1 does not help, close all windows and tabs of the browser — not just the tab with Zeiterfassung — and start it again. Only then is the background service stopped that serves the application from its stored files. Open Zeiterfassung again afterwards.
Step 3: Delete the site data for Zeiterfassung
Section titled “Step 3: Delete the site data for Zeiterfassung”If the error persists, delete the stored data for this one website. That is more thorough than step 1 and leaves every other website untouched.
Chrome and Edge
Section titled “Chrome and Edge”-

-
In the address bar, click the icon to the left of the address (padlock or slider icon, “Site information” / „Website-Informationen”).
-
Choose Cookies and site data („Cookies und Websitedaten”).
-
Delete the stored data — depending on the version the entry is called Manage and delete site data, Delete data or is a bin icon. Confirm the prompt.
-
Close the browser completely, start it again and sign in.
Firefox
Section titled “Firefox”-
Open Zeiterfassung.
-
Click the padlock icon in the address bar.
-

Click Manage Website Data….
-
Find the entry for the address of your Zeiterfassung, select it and click Remove.
-
Quit Safari completely, start it again and sign in.
Deleting all browsing data (last resort)
Section titled “Deleting all browsing data (last resort)”If you cannot find the way via the address bar, Ctrl + Shift + Del (macOS: ⌘ + Shift + Del) opens the dialog for deleting browsing data in Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
-
Choose All time as the time range.
-
Tick Cached images and files — and, if the error remains afterwards, Cookies and other site data as well.
-
Confirm with Delete data.
Phone and tablet
Section titled “Phone and tablet”| Device | What to do |
|---|---|
| iPhone / iPad (Safari) | Settings › Safari › Advanced › Website Data, swipe the entry for your Zeiterfassung to the left and delete it. |
| Android (Chrome) | Open Zeiterfassung, tap the icon left of the address in the address bar › Cookies and site data › delete. |
| Installed on the home screen | Android: Settings › Apps › Zeiterfassung › Storage › Clear cache. iOS: remove the icon from the home screen, delete the Safari website data as above, open the page again and add it to the home screen once more. |
Windows client and mobile app
Section titled “Windows client and mobile app”The steps on this page apply to the web interface in the browser only.
- The Windows client (Desktop / Verwaltung) has no browser cache. If it shows errors after an update, install the current version again from the download page.
- For the mobile app, close the app completely (swipe it away in the app switcher) and start it again. If the error remains, update the app in the App Store or on Google Play — see Downloads & installation.
If nothing helps
Section titled “If nothing helps”Contact your administration or support. The following details speed things up considerably:
- What you were trying to do and when (date and time).
- Which browser in which version, on which device.
- A screenshot of the error message or of the empty page.
- Whether the error happens to others as well, and whether it also happens in a private window (incognito mode) — a private window uses no cache and therefore separates a cache problem cleanly from a real defect.
Screenshots are taken from a test tenant and show sample data. Your interface may differ depending on role, licence and configuration.
